State of natural disaster due to last year’s drought - A state of natural disaster has been recognized in several municipalities in our region following last year’s drought.  16 cities in the Alpes Maritimes are concerned and residents who suffered damage from the drought have until November the 18th to make any insurance claim. Towns listed include Cagnes-sur-Mer, Carros, La Colle-sur-Loup, La Gaude, Castagniers and Peille, Bar-sur-Loup, Biot, Escragnolles, Grobio, Grasse and Gréolières and Menton.

Tap water ban in the Pays de Fayence - Meanwhile, due to last week’s bad weather the regional health agency has warned residents in the Pays de Fayence not to consume the tap water. Callian, Fayence, Mons, Montauroux (excluding Estérêts du lac), Seillans, Tanneron and Tourrettes are concerned. It is recommended to boil tap water for 5 minutes before using it for drinking, preparing food, brushing teeth and any other use requiring direct consumption. For vulnerable people, such as pregnant women and young children it is strongly recommended to use bottled water.  A distribution point has been set up on the Maison de l’eau site (871, route de Fréjus, in Fayence) open from 9am to midday and from 2pm to 5pm and closed on weekends. For those unable to get to the site can contact 04 94 85 30 50 to organize a delivery or contact their local CCAS.

Youth educator handed prison sentence - A youth educator has been handed a four-month prison sentence for hitting a CM2 student in a school in Toulon. The incident occurred on February the 13th in the playground of the Trois Quartiers school in Toulon during the lunch break. The youth educated was accused of losing his cool when two schoolchildren heckled him. One of the children was punched in the stomach and another was firmly grab by the arm.

Mobile phone providers experience technical break down in the Var - Mobile phone providers Bouygues Telecom and SFR have confirmed that many customers in the Draguignan area in the Var particularly in Lorgues, Le Muy and Flayosc were without a connection on Tuesday following a technical fault affecting 12 antennas used by both providers. On its website, Bouygues Telecom confirmed the incident adding that they were doing everything possible to limit the impact.

Monaco Bus Company warns of new scam - The Monaco Bus Company has once again warned users of a new scam on Facebook. A new fake Facebook page claims to offer free subscription cards for one year. The bus company urges users not to click on the link and to ignore the fake promotion. The page, entitled "Special offer for Monaco residents" offers one year of free transport, an offer supposedly valid until the end of October. To perfect the scam, fake comments have been posted praising the promotion.

Special Olympics - Monaco is gearing up to this weekend’s European swimming meeting part of the Monaco Special Olympics. Taking place on the 26th and 27th of October hundred of athletes from across Europe will participate in the special swimming competition backed by Princess Charlene. The Special Olympics Monaco will host the meeting at the Centre Nautique Albert II from 9am to 5pm. The event is a key opportunity for athletes with intellectual disabilities to showcase their talents and entrance is free for the public. The Special Olympics, founded in the United States in 1968, spread to Europe in 1980, with Monaco being one of the first countries to join. For more information: contact@specialolympicsmonaco.mc.

Google Street View Car in the Principality - A Google Street View car is driving through the streets of Monaco to update its virtual navigation service. Since Monday, the "Google Street View" car has been spotted on the streets of the Principality to carry out the update which was last done back in 2010. Decked out with high-definition cameras, the vehicle is expected to roam Monaco for several days to update the tech giant's virtual navigation service.

The price of gold has jumped to a record high, and the dollar was on the rise again on Wednesday. While pressure is on the yen and the euro, stocks in Asia stuttered as investors were reluctant to place major bets ahead of the hotly contested US Presidential election. The shifting expectations around how fast and deep the Federal Reserve will cut rates have also had an impact, with traders now anticipating the U.S. central bank to be measured in its easing.

With sales sliding at the global coffee chain Starbuck’s its new boss has said that he is planning a complete overhaul. Brian Niccol also announced that he was suspending the firm's financial forecasts for the coming year due to the "current state of the business". At the same time, the firm reported preliminary quarterly profits showing its sales and profits had fallen sharply. Starbucks shares fell by more than 4% after the announcement.

Cricket – Ahead of the deciding Test against Pakistan England’s captain Ben Stokes says he is fit enough to play a greater role with the ball.  All-rounder Stokes bowled 10 overs in England's defeat in the second Test, his first game in more than two months following a hamstring injury.

Rugby Union - Scarlet’s wing Blair Murray says he is still in shock after being included in Warren Gatland's 35-man Wales squad for November's autumn internationals. Murray, 23, was on the Scarlets training field when the squad was announced.

Football – In the champions League on Tuesday evening Monaco beat Red Star Belgrade 5-1.
