Concern grows for missing woman in Var after roadside disappearance - Police are searching for Nadège, a woman who disappeared on Sunday evening after suffering a puncture on a roadside near Pignans, in the Var region. According to friends, Nadège called to report a flat tyre before a breakdown service arrived. As there was no room for her in the recovery vehicle, she waited alone at the side of the road while a friend came to pick her up, but when the friend arrived, Nadège had vanished. Since then, she has not been seen or heard from. Gendarmerie units, including dog teams and a helicopter from the Hyères air section, have been mobilised in the search. Despite extensive efforts through Monday, she remained missing by nightfall.

Authorities have since suspended ground searches but confirmed that the investigation will continue as a judicial inquiry. Anyone with information or sightings of Nadège is urged to call 17, the emergency number for the French police.

Nice honours fallen soldiers of overseas operations - The city of Nice has paid tribute to French soldiers killed in overseas operations by adding the inscription “OPEX” to its war memorial on the Quai Rauba Capeù. The new engraving will be unveiled today November 11th,  Armistice Day and extends the monument’s commemoration beyond the two World Wars to include those who died serving France abroad. Mayor Christian Estrosi said the initiative reflected the city’s deep commitment to remembrance: “Nice is profoundly attached to the memory of those who sacrificed themselves for France. I wanted our monument to honour the soldiers who fell during external operations.” The monument, inaugurated in 1928 by Marshal Foch and classified as a historic monument in 2011, stands as a solemn reminder of war and peace. The addition of “OPEX” was carried out with respect for the site’s heritage, using a traditional stone-engraving method to ensure visual harmony. This new inscription symbolically joins the names of those lost in Indochina and other conflicts with the fallen of the World Wars, reaffirming Nice’s enduring duty of memory.

Nicolas Sarkozy freed from prison pending appeal - Former French president Nicolas Sarkozy has been released from Paris’s La Santé prison after spending 20 days in custody following his conviction in the so-called Libyan funding case. The Paris Court of Appeal ordered his release on Monday, placing him under judicial supervision. Sarkozy, 70, is banned from leaving France and from contacting several individuals, including Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin. Prosecutors had supported his request for conditional release, citing what they called “indeniable guarantees” that he would appear for his next hearing. His appeal trial is expected to begin in March 2026. Sarkozy’s brief imprisonment — unprecedented for a former French head of state — sparked strong political reactions. Allies on the right hailed his release as a “just” and “dignified” decision, while figures on the left denounced what they called “two-tier justice”.

In a post on X, the former president said: “The law has been applied. I will now prepare for the appeal. My only goal is to prove my innocence, truth will prevail.”

Prince Albert and Charles Leclerc launch Monaco foundation’s new Latin America branch in Brazil – HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco has inaugurated a new Latin American branch of his environmental foundation in São Paulo, joined by Formula 1 star Charles Leclerc. The move marks a major expansion of the foundation’s global network. The ceremony was held at the residence of Arnoldo Wald, Monaco’s Honorary Consul in Brazil, who will head the new office. Around 500 guests attended the event, including diplomats, scientists, philanthropists and representatives of civil society. Leclerc made a surprise appearance to praise the foundation’s commitment to environmental protection and to welcome its growing presence in the region. The São Paulo office becomes the 11th international branch of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation (FPA2), which has supported 24 projects in 10 Latin American countries since its creation in 2006. Prince Albert thanked his team and underlined the urgency of collective action against the climate crisis. The inauguration followed the Prince’s participation in the opening of COP30 in Belém, highlighting Monaco’s continued engagement in global climate diplomacy.

Monaco launches nationwide anti-smoking campaign targeting young people - The Principality has launched a new nationwide anti-smoking campaign as part of the Mois Sans Tabac initiative, with a strong focus on preventing tobacco use among young people and limiting exposure to second-hand smoke. Officials note that most smokers start between the ages of 15 and 25, making this age group the campaign’s main target. The government warns there is no safe level of tobacco exposure, stressing that even passive inhalation increases the risk of serious diseases such as cancer and heart conditions. The drive follows major legal reforms introduced earlier this year, which raised the legal smoking age from 16 to 18 and banned both smoking and vaping in public places including beaches, transport, playgrounds and vehicles carrying minors. Disposable e-cigarettes, or “puffs”, have also been outlawed due to their appeal to teenagers and their environmental impact. Public awareness efforts will intensify throughout Mois Sans Tabac, with school-based activities and visible messaging in no-smoking zones. Authorities say this marks the start of a long-term prevention strategy to reduce smoking rates across all age groups. Free support services, including counselling and nicotine-replacement therapies, are available through the CSAPAM addiction prevention centre and local healthcare professionals.

Zidane steals the spotlight at Toulon’s “Match of Legends” - Football great Zinedine Zidane was the star attraction at the “Match des Légendes” charity event held on Monday night at Toulon’s Stade Mayol, organised by former goalkeeper Pascal Olmeta. The evening brought together a host of French sporting icons, including Dimitri Payet, Fabien Barthez, Sébastien Chabal and David Ginola — for a match in aid of Olmeta’s children’s charity. Although Zidane didn’t take to the pitch, he kept his word to attend and lend his support. “We’re here for Pascal and, of course, for the children,” he said. “I couldn’t play tonight, but I told him I’d come. Like everyone in the crowd, I’m here for his association.”

Zidane’s presence drew huge cheers from the stands, confirming once again that, even without lacing up his boots, “Zizou” remains the legend among legends.
