French Prime Minister announces new government - French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has announced his new government. Gisèle Pelicot back in court today - In other national news in France, Gisèle Pelicot is due back in court today, Monday 6th October, to face the only man appealing after last year’s trial that convicted 51 people of raping her while she was drugged in her family home. Her defiant stance during the original case was hailed as a potential turning point against sexual violence in France.

Deadly shooting in Nice – Locally, following a shooting on Friday night that left two dead and five injured in Nice’s Les Moulins district local politicians Christian Estrosi and Éric Ciotti are demanding stronger state action. Estrosi called for permanent police reinforcements, while Ciotti criticized government inaction and proposed tougher anti-drug measures. An investigation into organized homicide is underway.

Flight delays - Nice Côte d’Azur Airport has been struggling with flight delays for nearly three years, with wait times ranging from 15 minutes to several hours, especially during the summer. Airport management points to air traffic control as the main cause of these ongoing disruptions, impacting many departing and arriving passengers.

While most French workers are open to relocating for their careers, Niçois value quality of life and personal ties. Only 20% consider moving abroad or to another region, showing a strong attachment to the Côte d’Azur lifestyle.

Business News

Japanese stocks hit a record high after the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) chose Sanae Takaichi as its new leader, positioning her to become Japan’s next prime minister. The Nikkei 225 surged about 4.5%, crossing 47,000 for the first time. Liskeard has celebrated 50 years since signing a twinning charter with Quimperlé, France. To mark the anniversary, Quimperlé's mayor invited Liskeard’s Civic Party to Brittany in September for a weekend of ceremonies. The partnership, which began in 1974, has seen decades of exchanges between schools, sports clubs, and community groups, though these have "lessened over time," the town council said.
