Severe fire risks causes several forest areas to close - Due to a "very severe" fire risk, several forest areas are closed on the 30th of July in Bouches-du-Rhône and Vaucluse. Strong mistral winds and dry conditions are expected to persist until at least the 5th of August, increasing fire danger. Six forest massifs in Bouches-du-Rhône and three in Vaucluse are now off-limits, with strict restrictions on access and work. Authorities stress that most wildfires are caused by human negligence and urge the public to follow safety rules.

Nightclub closed - A nightclub has closed after a 21-year-old woman was severely burned on Monday the 28th of July after a flaming cocktail incident reportedly ignited her hair and upper body in Juan-les-Pins, Alpes-Maritimes. She is now in an artificial coma with second- and third-degree burns, treated at a Marseille burn unit. The nightclub has voluntarily closed until further notice, while police investigate possible safety breaches. Both the bartender and the club manager have been taken into custody, and a witness appeal has been launched.

Body of a woman found - The body of a woman in her 70s has been found early Wednesday morning in an apartment in Juan-les-Pins, Alpes-Maritimes. Police suspect a violent death, possibly a femicide, and a forensic team was deployed to the scene. An investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances.

70-year-old man drowned - A man in his 70s has drowned on the morning of the 30th of July at a beach on Boulevard du Midi in Cannes. Despite quick intervention by bystanders and emergency services, he could not be revived. An investigation has been opened to identify the victim and determine the exact circumstances of his death.

Large police operation - A large police operation has taken place on the 29th of July, nearly a year after a double stabbing in Cagnes-sur-Mer, Alpes-Maritimes. Municipal and national police, along with hygiene services and Urssaf, carried out joint checks on vehicles and businesses. In total, 50 vehicles were stopped, and 6 businesses were inspected, including a targeted snack bar. The operation aimed to prevent future violence and ensure compliance with health and labour regulations.

Malfunctioning elevators in Monaco to be replaced - The eight frequently malfunctioning escalators in Fontvieille will be replaced, with completion expected by April 2026 in Monaco. Work has already begun near the Léo Ferré space, and glass elevators will also be installed to improve access to the port for people with reduced mobility. Escalators near the Rainier III animal garden will be closed from early 2026, forcing pedestrians to use stairs or elevators during nine months of work. The overall renovation is estimated to cost €4 million.

Louis II car park closed - The Louis II car park, located under the Fairmont tunnel, is closed until the 6th of October 2025, due to renovation work on its floors, walls, and ceilings in Monaco. During this period, subscribers will be redirected to the Grimaldi Forum and Portier car parks, while visitors should use the Viaduc car park. 3-month old puppy helps patients in CHPG - A three-month-old golden retriever named Tatou has been assisting patients since early July at the Princess Grace Hospital in Monaco’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation unit. Trained in animal-assisted therapy, Tatou helps reduce patients’ stress, pain, and improve focus during sessions with both children and adults. His presence encourages faster and more effective patient engagement in therapy. Tatou is still in training, in partnership with the Chien de Cœur Mc association. 
 

BUSINESS
U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that India could face tariffs of up to 25% if a trade deal isn’t finalized by the 1st of August. Talks between the two countries have been ongoing, with disagreements especially over access to India’s protected agriculture sector. Trump criticized India’s high tariffs and said the U.S. wants better market access, while India insists on safeguarding small farmers' livelihoods. Despite the tension, both sides say progress is being made and remain hopeful about reaching an agreement soon.

And - Starbucks will phase out its pickup-only stores, saying they feel too impersonal and lack the brand’s signature warmth. CEO Brian Niccol plans to focus on welcoming cafes with seating, aiming to deliver drinks in under four minutes. The shift comes after falling U.S. sales and profits, as part of a broader "Back to Starbucks" strategy. Some pickup-only locations will be converted, and over 1,000 stores will be revamped by the end of next year.
 

SPORTS
Cycling - Tadej Pogacar, fresh off winning his fourth Tour de France, will skip the upcoming Vuelta a España to rest and recover. He plans to return to competition in Canada in September and focus on the World Championships in Rwanda later that month. Joao Almeida will lead the UAE Team Emirates in Pogacar’s absence during the Vuelta, which starts on the 23rd of August in Torino, Italy.

Athletics - Germany's double Olympic biathlon champion Laura Dahlmeier has been "seriously injured" in a mountaineering accident in Pakistan. The incident occurred in the Karakoram mountains on Monday when the 31-year-old was caught in a rockfall.

Football - Luis Diaz says he "fulfilled his duty" at Liverpool after completing a £65.5m move to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
 

WEATHER
Bright and clear on the coast with occasional showers in the inland areas of the Var and Alpes-Maritimes departments accompanied by moderate to strong winds. Temperatures are slightly cooler than before with highs of 26 degrees in Nice, 28 in Cannes, Toulon and Marseille and 29 degrees in Saint-Tropez as inland temperatures may reach highs of 32 degrees. 

Tonight, clear skies with lows of 20 degrees. 

Outlook for tomorrow, bright and clear with highs of 27 degrees and persistent moderate to strong winds.
