Éric Ciotti announces his candidacy for mayor of Nice - Éric Ciotti has officially announced his candidacy for mayor of Nice in the March 2026 municipal elections, challenging current mayor Christian Estrosi. The deputy for the Alpes-Maritimes, who has long criticized Estrosi’s management, will campaign on lowering taxes and tackling insecurity. This marks Ciotti’s first official run for mayor after previously withdrawing in 2020.

Yellow storm alert - Météo-France has issued a yellow alert for storms and flood risk in the Var and Alpes-Maritimes from Wednesday evening into Thursday morning. Heavy rain, strong winds, and localized flooding are expected, with authorities urging caution, especially on the roads. Meanwhile, 28 other departments across France are under a higher orange alert for severe thunderstorms.

Legal action against streaming platform Kick - France’s digital minister has announced legal action against the platform Kick for failing to act after French streamer Jean Pormanove died live after 12 days of violence and humiliation broadcast without intervention. Kick has promised full cooperation with French authorities as the case raises serious concerns over content moderation and platform responsibility.

Homeless man dies after leaving hospital - A 40-year-old homeless man has died on Wednesday morning on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice. The man had just left the hospital and was living near Avenue de la Lanterne.

Avignon marathon 2026 - Avignon will host its first marathon in September 2026, alongside a half marathon. Organisers have announced 3,500 bibs will be available, though registration has not yet opened. The course is designed for strong performances while showcasing the city’s historic landmarks.

Scops owls released - Six scops owls have been released back into the wild after being cared for all summer by the association Instinct Animal in Vence, Alpes-Maritimes. About 30 young owls had been taken in, and only the birds strong and independent enough to fly and feed themselves were freed, while others remain in care until ready.

15-year-old missing, found - A 15-year-old missing for nearly three weeks, has been found safe today in an apartment in downtown Toulon, Var. She had disappeared from her father’s home in Val-de-Marne on the 9th of August before traveling south. Police have questioned her, and four adults were arrested and taken into custody.

Bernard Arnault buys Cap Estel - French billionaire Bernard Arnault, CEO of LVMH, has bought the luxury hotel Cap Estel in Èze for €200 million. This iconic five-star property with 28 suites, a spa, and a rich history has hosted stars like Greta Garbo and the Beatles. The purchase adds to Arnault’s collection of prestigious Riviera assets, including La Résidence de la Pinède in Saint-Tropez.

Yellow alert tomorrow - The Alpes-Maritimes will be under yellow alert for heavy rain, flooding, and thunderstorms from midnight until early afternoon tomorrow. Forecasters warn of up to 100mm of rain, hail, and winds reaching 80 km/h, with possible escalation to orange alert. Parks, gardens, and coastal paths in Nice will be closed as a precaution, with calmer weather expected by mid-afternoon.

The film’s catchy soundtrack, featuring songs that topped Billboard and Spotify charts, has fuelled its viral global success. Praised for its animation and cultural themes, it also gave Netflix its first-ever No.1 at the US box office, with a sequel already being discussed.

WEATHER
It’s mostly cloudy across the region with occasional showers inland accompanied by gentle to moderate winds. Highs of 27 degrees in Nice, 28 in Cannes, 29 in Saint-Tropez and Toulon and 31 degrees in Marseille.

Tonight, rain and thunderstorms cover the entire region as temperatures drop to 23 degrees

Outlook for tomorrow, the thundery showers continue until mid-afternoon with highs of 27 degrees and gentle to moderate winds.
