H.S.H. PRince Albert II Reflects on 20 YEars of Reign - H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco has reflected on his 20 years of reign, expressing that his greatest pride is his marriage and children. He has highlighted key achievements including sustainable development efforts, modernization of infrastructure, and strengthening of Monaco’s economy, healthcare, and security. Looking ahead to the 19th of July celebration with citizens, he emphasized the importance of sharing this milestone moment with the Monégasque people.

Enedis Completes Mission in Carros - Enedis has removed a large electricity pylon by helicopter as part of a long-term project to bury high-voltage power lines in Carros, Alpes-Maritimes. This marks the end of a project begun in 2019, benefiting nearly 1,900 residents now connected to a safer, underground network. The operation improves resilience to weather, restores natural landscapes, and reduces risks to wildlife and power outages.

Cyclist Accident - A serious accident has occurred on Wednesday morning involving a cyclist and a street maintenance vehicle in Nice. The cyclist, in his thirties, was severely injured and taken to Pasteur 2 hospital after being treated on-site by emergency services. The cause of the collision remains unknown, and police secured the area while firefighters assisted.

Cash Machine Theft - A cash machine has been stolen from the post office during the night using a crane truck in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, Vaucluse. Three masked individuals fled before police arrived, leaving the damaged post office and the truck behind. An investigation is ongoing, with no arrests yet, and postal services remain partially operational.

Driver Under the Influence Sentenced - A driver under the influence of cocaine and without a valid license has crashed into a tree while fleeing from police in Monieux, Vaucluse. He had no insurance and was driving with a cancelled license; fortunately, he was not injured during the accident. He has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for this incident and prior offenses in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.

Café de l'Emploi - This Wednesday afternoon, the 9th "Café de l’emploi" job fair is being held at the Cocteau Museum square in Menton, offering over 300 summer job opportunities. Organized by the city’s Youth Service, the event connects job seekers of all ages with local employers over coffee. Participants can meet recruiters from sectors like hospitality, retail, and public services—CVs, cover letters, and a positive attitude are encouraged!

Alliance Against Tobacco in the Cannes Film Festival - During the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, the Alliance Against Tobacco has launched a counter-campaign called “Festival où tu canes” or “Festival where you die” to denounce the glamorization of smoking in films and series. The campaign highlights how tobacco is still heavily featured on screen—80% of Oscar-nominated films and many youth-targeted series include smoking scenes. Partnering with streamer Doigby, the group will host a live Twitch show on the 15th of May to raise awareness among young people about smoking’s influence in pop culture.
 

NEWS UPDATE 
Lightning injured People - Lightning has struck and injured people during a localized storm, prompting emergency response in La Barben Zoo, Bouches-Du-Rhone. Thirteen people, including four children, were treated for minor injuries, while two others were unharmed. No zoo infrastructure was damaged and no animals were injured in the incident.

New Hyperbaric Chamber - The Nice University Hospital has received Europe’s largest hyperbaric chamber, used to treat conditions like decompression sickness, carbon monoxide poisoning, and chronic wounds. This new installation doubles the capacity of the old unit, allowing up to 11,000 sessions per year. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy greatly boosts oxygen levels in the blood, aiding tissue healing and emergency treatments.
 

BUSINESS
Some families of victims from the deadly Jeju Air crash in December have filed a criminal complaint against 15 people, including South Korea’s transport minister and Jeju Air’s CEO, alleging negligence. They claim the crash, which killed 179 people, was a preventable disaster caused by poor risk management and are demanding a more thorough investigation. Authorities are still probing the cause, while the families also face online abuse and misinformation targeting them.

And - Burberry plans to cut around 1,700 jobs globally by 2027 to reduce costs, following a £66 million loss last year. Most of the cuts will affect UK head office roles and the Castleford factory, where night shifts will be scrapped. The company aims to save £100 million annually by focusing on efficiency and returning to its roots in outerwear like trench coats and scarves.
 

SPORTS
Football - Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is in an induced coma after having the first phase of surgery on a serious abdominal injury. The Nigeria international, 27, collided with the post in the 88th minute of the 2-2 draw against Leicester at the City Ground on Sunday as he attempted to get on the end of a cross from Anthony Elanga.

Rugby Union - A new Women's Rugby World Cup trophy has been unveiled to mark 100 days before the start of the 2025 tournament in England. The trophy is 38cm tall and weighs 4.5kg. Its design has been chosen by nine former world champions including England's 2014 winning captain Katy Daley-Mclean.

Cricket - The Pakistan Super League (PSL) will resume on Saturday 17 May after its postponement because of the hostilities between India and neighbouring Pakistan. The tournament was suspended over safety concerns on 8 May and plans to play the rest of the matches in the United Arab Emirates were then scrapped.
 

WEATHER
Mostly clear with a gentle breeze and quite summer like temperatures on the coast. Meteo France still warns of potential showers later this afternoon. Inland thunderstorms persist until early evening. We’ll have highs of 21 degrees in Nice and Marseille, and 22 degrees in Cannes, Saint-Tropez and Toulon.

Tonight, it’s mostly clear once again with temperatures dropping to 14 degrees.

Outlook for tomorrow, mostly clear across the whole PACA region with highs of 23 degrees in Nice, and strong winds in the Bouches-du-Rhone department.
