Catastrophic Mimosa Harvest this Year - The mimosa harvest, has been "catastrophic" this year, with producers like Benoît Augier losing 80% of their crop due to extreme weather in Tanneron, Var. The shortage has led to a 15% price increase, but alternatives like wild mimosa and eucalyptus can't fully offset the losses. Climate change is shortening the harvest season, threatening this iconic southern French crop, while increased tourism adds pressure on the fragile mimosa fields. A producer has complained ‘imagine if every visitor went home with a kilo, that would be 56 tonnes less! A municipal by-law prohibits the picking of mimosa, but some visitors don't respect it’.

Cleaning Up the City after the Menton Lemon Festival - After Menton's Lemon Festival, a dedicated team of municipal road service workers swiftly cleans the city to reopen streets within three hours. While some producers are skeptical, many see this as an opportunity to revive the industry and secure fairer prices.

BUSINESS
During the budget orientation debate in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, the city announced plans to continue investing in 2025 despite tight finances, avoiding new loans or tax increases. Operating expenses will rise 5%, driven by staffing costs and a €693,000 fine for not meeting social housing quotas, while revenues are set to drop by 1.54%. The city plans €13 million in equipment spending, focusing on urban development, health facilities, and school infrastructure, funded through grants and without increasing local tax rates, though property taxes will adjust with inflation.

The deal includes creating a joint investment fund for Ukraine's reconstruction but does not offer American security guarantees, which Zelensky had sought. Trump emphasized that the agreement would help recover US aid costs, while Russia downplayed the significance of the deal.
