Antonio Caroli has passed away - Antonio Caroli, a leading Italian engineer and real estate developer in Monaco, has died at 77. Founder of the Caroli Group in 1973, he played a key role in the Principality’s economy and media sector for decades. Riviera Radio would like to extend our deepest condolences to his family, loved ones and colleagues.

PM Sébastien Lecornu will not use article 49.3 - PM Sébastien Lecornu announced he will not use article 49.3 to force through the budget, urging Parliament to debate and vote instead. The Socialist Party welcomed this shift but demanded a full vote on the controversial 2023 pension reform, while divisions remain over broader economic and social policies.

Fire - A fire broke this morning in an underground parking lot of a residential building in Brignoles, Alpes-Maritimes, prompting an evacuation. Around 50 firefighters, with multiple engines and ambulances, are on site to contain the blaze.

Criminal arrested in Nice - A driver who fled a police check on Wednesday 1st of October has finally been arrested in Nice and found to be wanted for criminal conspiracy. He was driving uninsured and is now in custody.

Doctors sentenced for helping patients buy lethal substanceProsecutors have requested a 12-month suspended prison sentence against a French doctor and right-to-die advocate, for helping patients buy a lethal substance online. He and 11 others are on trial in Paris for facilitating access to the banned substance.

Mazan trial continues after only 1 man appealed - In the “Mazan rapes” case, only one of 51 men convicted faces retrial in Nîmes on the 6th of October after appealing his nine-year prison sentence.

Trampoline and Tumbling World Cup - The Trampoline and Tumbling World Cup will be hosted until Sunday at the AzurArena in Antibes, Alpes-Maritimes, featuring top international gymnasts in trampoline, tumbling, and acrobatic gymnastics. The event, a rare stop in southern France, will be broadcast live on France.tv.
 

BUSINESS
A cyberattack has forced Japanese Asahi Breweries to halt orders and shipments in Japan, causing major retailers like 7-Eleven and FamilyMart to warn of shortages of its beer and bottled teas. The company says operations remain disrupted with no timeline yet for recovery.

Two commercial premises are available for rent in the Larvotto district of Monaco, located at 37 avenue Princesse Grace. Applications must be submitted by the 17th of October 2025, with visits scheduled on the 6th and 13th of October.

And - Monaco-based luxury construction company Probat has acquired Volpi Bâtiment, a family-run high-end builder in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, to strengthen its presence on the Côte d’Azur. The merger integrates Volpi’s 45 years of expertise, 25 staff, and €10M revenue into Probat’s operations, expanding its reach and capabilities in upscale construction and renovation.
 

SPORTS
Formula 1 - Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso set the pace from Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Red Bull's Max Verstappen in first practice at the Singapore Grand Prix. Alonso was 0.150secs ahead of Leclerc and 0.276secs clear of Verstappen. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton was fourth fastest.

Rugby Union - Northampton Saints have signed Italy hooker Marco Manfredi for the rest of the season.

Football - Newcastle manager Eddie Howe says Tino Livramento's eight-week recovery forecast is "good news" but the wait for Yoane Wissa's debut will be "slightly longer".
