The third wave of Covid in the Hautes-de-France is the largest ever observed since the start of the epidemic in France - The new wave of Covid-19 in Hauts-de-France is the largest ever observed since the start of the epidemic a year ago. In a press release published today the regional health agency has said that "the hospital situation remains very tense in the Hauts-de-France with 60 to 70 people entering intensive care every day". In total 3,281 Covid patients are currently hospitalized in the region, exceeding the previous two waves of the epidemic" and "the very active circulation of the virus is resulting in a clear increase in hospital admissions", warns the agency.

France could be put on UK’s “red list” - Meanwhile France could switch to the "red list" of the United Kingdom. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was asked on Wednesday in Parliament as to why France was not on the "red list" of countries subject to travel restrictions, Boris Johnson replied that it is "something we will have to study". He cautioned, however, of the disruption that any measures would cause, especially in trade between both sides of the Channel.

Possible lockdown for three additional departments - Three new departments are expected to go into lockdown as the list of regions of France affected by new restrictive measures could grow. French government spokesman Gabriel Attal announced that "consultations" would take place to extend it to three new departments: Rhône, Aube and Nièvre.
