So why do so many locals not go out in the rain?

It must be said that our region is blessed with many sunny days and blue, azure skies, but why the minute it rains are the streets and restaurants empty and even an appointment at the doctors cancelled at the last minute?

Following an investigation those from other regions have expressed their amusement and amazement at how the rain affects locals on the Riviera. One gentleman from the Nord Pas de Calais says that despite having been in the region for nine years, the attitude towards a rainy doesn’t fail to amuse him, pointing out that “where he comes from it can rain nonstop for three weeks”. Another resident from Denmark living on the Riviera remarks on how “the city stops” and that “only that fact that you have to go to work being a reason to face the rain”. However, even those from sunny places such as Naples, where the weather is as nice as in Nice, notice the “strange behaviour” towards rain pointing out that “even when it does rain in Naples, people still go out to bars and shops”. For one bar manager of several restaurants on the Côte d'Azur, the bad weather is even an opportunity to give his staff a rest “on rainy days, people don't move” he says, adding that “are only customers are foreigners". Most surprisingly is the number of doctors surgeries which remain empty with many saying that “when it starts to rain, patients call and talk utter rubbish to avoid coming to their appointment”.

So, what do you do in the rain? If you are faced with trying to convince friends or family to brave the wet weather, then it may be worth knowing that in the last few years researchers have begun untangling some of the little-known benefits of walking in wintry conditions. It turns out that the conditions most deterring us from taking a stroll are, in fact, excellent reasons to step outdoors. So it might just be worth putting on your wellies and a waterproof coat and taking advantage of the rain.
