Public Health France says that hospital and critical covid admissions are on the rise - Public Health France has said that "hospital and critical care covid admissions are on the rise again". In its weekly update the organisation has said that at a national level the incidence rate was again increasing with 55 new cases of covid per 100,000 inhabitants while the alert threshold is 50. This threshold is exceeded "in 44 metropolitan departments" and is "increasing or stable in all regions". In the week of October 18th, it "reached 73 per 100,000 inhabitants in Pays de la Loire (+52%) and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (+1%), and 71 in Île-de-France (-0.2%)".

Mediterranean episode forecast this weekend - Météo France has forecast a "Mediterranean episode" this weekend from Saturday into Sunday with heavy rain expected particularly in the Var and the southeast region of the Alpes Maritimes. Between 50 and 80 mm of rain is expected. Meanwhile three departments the Ardeche, the Gard and the Lozèze are on an orange "rain-flood" alert today expected between this evening and Sunday due to the "Mediterranean episode".

Motorist responsible for fatal road accident handed a five-year prison sentence - The motorist responsible for killing two Monegasque firefighters in a road accident in Puget-Théniers on August 31st has been given a five-year prison sentence. The 24-year-old craftsman appeared in court in Nice on Thursday. Four motorcyclists all firefighters from Monaco were mowed down during a leisurely motorcycle trip. Two were wounded, two others killed 22-year-old Sapper Matis Canavese, and 42-year-old Sergeant Stéphan Hertier.

Bronchiolitis epidemic spreading - As the bronchiolitis epidemic spreads in France, the president of the French Society of Pediatrics has advised parents to avoid exposing children under two months of age to other adults. The health authorities have warned that the epidemic is already affecting 11 of the 13 regions of France, and the last two, Brittany and Corsica, will soon be included. 

Polynesian woman wins biggest Euromillions win - A Polynesian woman in her thirties has won the biggest win in the history of Euromillions.
