Telephones in British School of Monaco - The British School of Monaco has partnered with Monaco Telecom to offer a refurbished Nokia 3210, without internet or social media access, to help protect students from the dangers of smartphones. Parents can purchase the phone for just one euro, with a monthly plan of €8.99 for unlimited calls and texts. The initiative aims to promote digital disconnection and reduce the risks associated with screen addiction among adolescents.

The Flame of Peace - Monaco Info has produced a 52-minute documentary titled "The Flame of Peace," showcasing the work of the NGO Peace and Sport over the past year. The documentary highlights its global missions and the belief that sport can be a solution for equity and respect, as endorsed by Prince Albert II.

Winemakers Worried - Provençal winemakers face a tough harvest due to climate issues, such as drought and heavy rains, leading to smaller yields. Even those with decent crops worry about declining wine sales, as consumption has dropped significantly, especially among younger generations. This shift, combined with rising costs and reduced exports, threatens the industry's profitability. Due to poor weather conditions this year, France may lose its place as world’s top wine makers.

Dengue - Three cases of locally transmitted dengue have been detected in Vallauris, Alpes-Maritimes, following a prior case in Monaco early September, where mosquito control operations were quickly conducted. Residents are advised to use repellents, wear protective clothing, and eliminate standing water to reduce mosquito populations and avoid infection.

Pest Control in Cannes - Following severe storms in Cannes, particularly in the République area, the mayor initiated targeted mosquito and rat control campaigns to protect public health. Drugs Seized - Two women in their twenties were arrested in Toulon for carrying approximately 2.3 kg of cannabis resin during a vehicle check. Police discovered twenty blocks of resin after noticing a strong odor of cannabis emanating from the car, along with €400 in cash. The women, aged 21 and 25, are in custody under drug law violations.

Luynes Post Office Closed - The Luynes post office has permanently closed and been replaced by two postal service points: one at Casino Shop and another at the local town hall. While some residents appreciate the extended hours, others miss having a traditional post office. This shift reflects broader trends as municipalities and private businesses partner to maintain postal services amid declining foot traffic.

Ski Resorts Have Announced Opening Dates - After a stormy weekend, snow has arrived in some areas of the French Riviera but melted quickly due to heavy rain. While the snow didn't last, ski resorts have announced their opening dates, with Isola 2000 and Auron set to start the season on December 7, 2024. Most resorts will open by mid-December, just before the Christmas holidays.

BUSINESS
The collapse of UK construction giant ISG has led to the immediate loss of 2,200 jobs and threatens smaller firms in its supply chain. Industry leaders warn the situation could cause other companies to fail, with concerns over unpaid debts and broader challenges in the sector. ISG’s financial struggles stemmed from loss-making contracts, echoing wider issues of thin profit margins and underestimation of construction costs.

The cryptocurrency Industry Is facing increased scrutiny from US regulators, with SEC Chair Gary Gensler calling it “rife with fraud.” Despite a crackdown, crypto companies are spending millions on political donations ahead of US elections, hoping for more favourable laws. While Donald Trump supports making the US a global crypto hub, the Biden administration has taken a tougher stance, reflecting broader global efforts to regulate the sector.
