First victim of wildfire in the Var 

Authorities in the Var have confirmed the first death caused by the wildfire in the Massif des Maures. A man in his fifties was found with fatal burns at his home in Grimaud. According to local media it was a friend who discovered his body.

Since the start of the fire on Monday, August 16, five firefighters have suffered minor injuries. 22 people were also slightly injured, including 19 from smoke inhalation.

Latest reports; the prefect this morning has confirmed;

-The destruction of 5,000 hectares in the Var out of 6,700 hectares covered by the fire.

-The fire did not progress overnight.

-1,200 firefighters are on site many of whom came as reinforcements from all over France, were mobilized this Wednesday morning.

- The wind has finally fallen in the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, which will facilitate the work of the firefighters.

Authorities ask that members of the public do not clutter the access roads, do not stand near the fire to take photos or videos, do not use the traffic routes on the outskirts of the Gulf of Saint-Tropez to give way to the emergency services.
