The U.S Ambassador to Israel criticises France

The U.S Ambassador to Israel criticises France - U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee has sharply criticized France’s support for Palestinian statehood, sarcastically suggesting that Paris should "tear off a piece of the French Riviera" if it's so committed to the cause. His remarks come ahead of an international conference co-hosted by France and Saudi Arabia at the United Nations from June 17th to 20th, aiming to revive the two-state solution, something Israel's current government firmly rejects.

Speaking to Fox News, Huckabee called the initiative “incredibly inappropriate” while Israel remains at war in Gaza, referencing the Hamas attacks of October 7th, 2023. His comments follow rising tensions between Israel and France. Israel recently accused French President Emmanuel Macron of waging a “crusade against the Jewish state” after Macron urged Europe to adopt a tougher stance unless humanitarian conditions in Gaza improve. This also comes as Israel announced the creation of 22 new settlements in the occupied West Bank, moves widely condemned as illegal under international law. Huckabee, a vocal supporter of Israel, dismissed accusations of occupation, stating: “There is no occupation” of Palestinian territories.
