Tax returns

Taxes - The online tax return opens this Thursday April 11th. Some changes should be noted for 2024 when filing in your declaration. For deadlines, you have until May 23rd inclusive if you live in the Alpes-Maritimes and until June 6th inclusive if you live in the Var.

From this Thursday, April 11, taxpayers can go to the impot.gouv.fr website to complete their tax return online. There are several changes to take into account before sending your declaration. Firstly, due to inflation, income tax rates are increasing this year. Each threshold will be around 4.8% compared to +5.4% in 2023. This increase results in a change in the threshold for the first tranche from 10,777 to 11,294 euros. The portion of your income taxed at 0% is therefore greater. Please note that this increase in thresholds means that your tax decreases if your salaries, pensions or other resources do not increase.

On the subject of donations, any donations that you have made during the year to charitable or humanitarian associations make you eligible to certain tax reductions. Since January 1, 2023, associations defending gender equality have been eligible for the 66% tax reduction. Another new feature, a donation to the heritage foundation up to 1000 euros also opens the right to a 75% bonus, which is usually limited to 66%. The aim is to encourage financing for the restoration of heritage sites in France. A measure which is in place until 2025.

As far as fines are concerned, the tax authorities can penalize you if you have not filed your tax return or paid your taxes on time. If you find yourself in this situation, you will owe not only the amount you did not pay,
