The victim was hit by a train at the station shortly after 8.30am during Monday’s rush hour. According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the woman threw herself under the tracks of a train arriving at the station.

Despite emergency braking, the train driver was unable to avoid the collision, which was witnessed by dozens of passengers during the rush hour. Around fifteen firefighters from the Principality were dispatched to the scene, but the victim died instantly. Train traffic was immediately interrupted in both directions. The SNCF set up a psychological unit at Monaco station and a telephone support centre has also been launched. The train driver, in a state of shock, was taken to the Princess Grace Hospital for a check-up and psychological monitoring.
