Prefecture calls for vigilance amongst the regions pig farmers - The Alpes-Maritimes prefecture has called for “vigilance" after the diagnosis, in Italy, "less than 100 km from the border with France", of a case of African swine fever on a Boar. The warning has worried pig farmers in the region. While avian flu is already raging in the south-west of France, the threat is now in the Alpes-Maritimes. Deadly for animals, this disease is harmless for humans. On the Côte d’Azur, around twenty pig farms have been identified. African swine fever, which settled in the eastern part of Germany after affecting Belgium in 2018, can be transmitted during direct or indirect contact between farms and infected wild boars.

Health Minister to visit Nice today - France's Minister of Health Olivier Véran, is to visit Nice today Thursday 17th February. During his visit the minister is to meet with staff at the Archet hospital and speak about the current health situation. Veran’s visit comes as on Wednesday, he mentioned the possible end to wearing a mask indoors including in work, school, or public transport in mid-March, should the health situation allow.

Weather alert - The Var region has been placed on a yellow weather alert with high winds forecast. The warning was issued on Thursday with possible gust of up to 110km an hour forecast. The windy weather is expected to last until tomorrow Friday 18th February.

Employees allowed to take their pet to work - Staff at the city hall of Nice have been granted the authorization to go to work with their pet. The idea was introduced by elected official for animal protection Henry-Jean Servat and is still in an experimental stage. Servat himself went to work with two of his four dogs.

Tour des Alpes Maritimes and the Var - Disruptions are expected on the roads in the Var tomorrow Friday 18th February with the arrival in La Seyne of the “Cycling Tour des Alpes-Maritimes and Var”. The 1st stage of the event will take place in La Seyne with several road closures and the public is invited to park in the public car parks. The cyclists will arrive in the town via the Corniche Merveilleuse, coming from Six-Fours. On the starting line are Thibaut Pinot, Guillaume Martin and Nairo Quintana who will be leaving Saint-Raphaël at midday and are expected at La Seyne between 3pm and 6pm.

French rapper in concert in Monaco - French rapper MC Solaar will be in concert at the Grimaldi Forum in June. The singer joins Francis Cabrel, Iggy Pop and Christophe Maé for the spring programme of the Grimaldi Forum. Tickets range from 49 to 79 euros. Latest poll show Macron in the lead for voting intentions - The latest poll on the Presidential elections in France has shown that Macron leads the voting intentions even if there has been a slight drop in the number of people supporting him. The poll carried out by the Elabe Institute, less than two months before the presidential election shows Macron in the lead followed by far-right candidate Marine Le Pen and Republican Valérie Pécresse.
