Man jumps from 3rd floor to escape fire - A 40 year old man has been taken to hospital after a fire broke out in a house in the Alpes Maritimes. The man reportedly jumped from the third floor of the house to escape from the flames. The fire broke out in the early hours of this morning on the road to Castellar above the city of Menton. The cause of the blaze is still not known.

Pfizer vaccination available again in Nice - Vaccination against covid with Pfizer is to resume in Nice at the Acropolis conference centre from tomorrow Tuesday 4th January. Due to a shortage of the Pfizer vaccine in France in early December many were unable to get vaccinated with Pfizer and were offered Moderna for their booster jab. The mayor however has announced that those people wishing to receive Pfizer will from tomorrow be able to.

Health pass transformation into vaccination pass - Meanwhile the French government will today study and approve in the National Assembly the transformation of the health pass into a vaccine pass. From January 15th tougher penalties for fraud are to be introduced and proof of vaccination status will be required from the age of 12 years old to access most places opened to the public.

Var region hit hard by covid - The covid incidence rate continues to break records in the Var nearly reaching 1,500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (or more than 3,000 new carriers of the virus detected every day on average since Christmas). Nine people have died in the region from covid since the beginning of the year: 4 Saturday and 5 Sunday, according to data from Public Health France.

Since the beginning of November and the surge of the "5th wave" of covid in the department, there have been 153 deaths in hospitals in the Var. In addition 10 deaths have been reported in nursing homes in the department, according to figures from the Regional Health Agency.

Woman wins 200,000 euros after putting 80 cents in a slot machine - A woman has won more than 200,000 euros at the casino after betting 80 cents.
