Macron only just overtakes Le Pen in the Alpes Maritimes region - It was a close call in the Alpes-Maritimes region between Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen with the outgoing president gathering 50.13% of the votes just ahead of far-right Marine Le Pen with 49.87%. The results show a sharp decline compared to 2017 when the candidate of the National Rally was nearly 11 points behind.

Russian President reacts to re-election of Emmanuel Macron - Meanwhile Russian President Vladimir Putin has finally reacted this Monday morning to the re-election of Emmanuel Macron. According to the Kremlin, the Russian president congratulated his French counterpart on his re-election and wished him "success". In a message sent to Emmanuel Macron Vladimir Putin wrote "I sincerely wish you success in your public action, as well as good health”. The two men, frequently in contact at the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, have not spoken to each other since the discovery of the Boutcha massacre in early April.

Oldest living woman - A Japanese woman who was officially recognized as the oldest living woman in the world has died at the age of 119. The death of Kane Tanaka means that Sister André who lives in a nursing home in Toulon in the Var has now become the oldest living woman in the world. Sister André, celebrated her 118th birthday last February.

Tunnel in Toulon closed this week from 10pm to 6pm - Due to road works being carried out in Toulon the tunnel will be closed every evening this week from 10pm to 6am. Motorists must take the exit ramp from the Toulon Centre interchange (n°17). Circulation is expected to return to normal from Friday 29th April.

According to recent research surgeons would be more efficient listening to AC/DC or the Beatles. The study carried out by a German University showed that surgeons who listen to the rock band AC/DC or the Beatles during an operation would obtain more precise results on their patients.

The scientists then noted that doctors who listened to songs like 'Highway to Hell' or 'T.N.T.' by the rock band AC/DC, had a precision cut reduced from 236 to 139 seconds. They also improved their accuracy of surgical procedures by 5%, reports Rolling Stone France magazine on its website.

Additionally, surgeons were about 50% faster in attending to wounds when listening to 'Hey Jude' and 'Let It Be' in the background. That said: this positive effect disappears when these songs are played at high volume.
