Tributes made to former Italian Prime Minister - French President Emmanuel Macron has expressed his “sincere condolences to his family and the Italian people” following the death at 86, of the former head of the Italian government Silvio Berlusconi. Speaking on Monday evening Macron hailed the memory of "a major figure in contemporary Italy". Leaders from around the world, from Vladimir Putin to Emmanuel Macron, joined Italians in hailing one of the most turbulent personalities in their country's history.

Nice mayor Christian Estrosi also paid tribute to the former Italian Prime Minister. The mayor said that he was "a great industrialist and emblematic figure of Italian politics" who "was a friend of France and a committed European".

Teenager struck by lightning while waiting at a bus stop - A teenager has been struck by lightning while waiting at a bus stop in front of his school. The incident occurred at Beausset near Toulon in the Var at around 3pm on Monday afternoon. Witnesses rescued the 15-year-old who was in cardiac arrest. Emergency services air lifted the young boy to the Lenval hospital in Nice.

More is known on the fatal accident onboard a yacht in the port of Nice - It’s been reported that the 26-year-old South African woman who died from her injuries after falling on a yacht in the port of Nice at the weekend, was a result of an accident onboard the vessel. The victim who had worked for two years on the Goose, a 45-meter yacht flying the British flag, she reportedly, fell below a staircase onboard the yacht. It was a crew member who discovered her unconscious and gave her first aid until emergency services arrived. Sadly, the victim later died from her injuries.

Statue of Sir Winston Churchill - A new statue of Sir Winston Churchill is being inaugurated this Friday in Saint Jean Cap Ferrat. It takes place at 6.30pm on the Quai Lindbergh in the presence of the British Consul in Monaco, the International Churchill Society, certain members of the Churchill family, the Mayor and the Municipal Council of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.

Ukrainian refugee wins Belgian National Lottery - A Ukrainian refugee has won 500,000 euros on the Belgian National Lottery. Speaking to the National Lottery the winner said that he “intended to use the money to help his fellow countrymen and the reconstruction of his country". The young man who fled the war and had been living in Brussels for a year and bought the 5 euro scratch card at a petrol station on May 16th.

Longest human caterpillar in the world - The record for the longest human caterpillar in the world has been broken with 3,940 participants. The participants gathered in the French town of Rouen on Monday evening to break the record for the longest human caterpillar in the world which had previously been held by the people of Brittany.

After taking over from Elon Musk a week ago the new boss of Twitter, has outlined her plans for the social media firm. Linda Yaccarino says the company is "on a mission to become the world's most accurate real-time information source". Since Mr Musk bought Twitter last year, it has faced criticism over its approach to tackling disinformation. In the last month, the company lost its head of trust and safety and pulled out of the EU's disinformation code. Since buying Twitter last year for $44bn (£35.1bn), Mr Musk had been under pressure to find someone to lead the firm so that he could focus on his other businesses, which include electric carmaker Tesla and rocket firm SpaceX.

JP Morgan has agreed to pay roughly $290m to settle a lawsuit brought on behalf of alleged victims of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Attorneys for the bank said it was "in the best interests of all parties, especially the survivors who were the victims of Epstein's terrible abuse". The lawsuit had alleged the largest US bank ignored warning signs about its client during a 15-year relationship. The agreement is subject to court approval.

And - Amazon says it is using the latest in artificial intelligence (AI) to crack down on fake reviews and identify comments that aren't genuine. The tech giant has been struggling with fake review "brokers", which are a huge problem for its shopping site. Amazon has invested in machine learning models that analyse thousands of data points to help it detect the fraudulent behaviour.

Sport

Football – French footballer Kylian Mbappe looks set to leave PSG. The club say they are prepared to sell Mbappe this summer rather than risk losing him for free in a year's time, after he told the French club he will not renew his contract. His current deal expores at the end of next season, with the option of another year. There was a deadline of 31 July for the 24-year-old player, to tell PSG if he was going to renew until 2025. After months of talks, he has sent the club a letter saying he will not.

Mbappe joined PSG in 2017 initially on loan from Monaco . He has scored 212 goals in 260 games.

Meanwhile, thousands of Manchester City fans gathered to celebrate their team's historic Treble as they staged an open-top bus parade through the city on Monday. Manager Pep Guardiola was seen puffing on a cigar as fans climbed lamp-posts. The parade was delayed by lightning storms. 

Rugby Union - Prop Joe Marler and scrum-half Danny Care have been included in the England squad for the first World Cup preparation camp. Coach Steve Borthwick will announce his 33-man squad for the World Cup on August 7th, the World Cup starts on 8 September.

Basketball – Monaco have won against Victor Wembanyama's Mets in the Betclic Elite final. The Monegasques won their second match of the series on Monday and are now only one victory away from the title.
