Airlines have said that passengers will face higher fares after the UK's aviation regulator increased air traffic control charges. The FAA said that it expected the decision will increase the average cost of UK “en route air traffic services” by around 43 pence to around £2.08 per passenger per flight.  The FAA said that the increase will allow UK air traffic control to continue to recover its operating costs and finance new investment needed to provide a high-quality level of service in the future. However, industry body Airlines UK, which represents many major airlines, said that the increases "cannot be justified" given recent disruption to flights caused by air traffic control problems.
