TGV derails injuring 21 people

TGV derails injuring 21 people – 21 people have been injured after a Strasbourg to Paris TGV derailed about thirty kilometers north of Strasbourg this morning at 7.45am. According to reports one of the injured the driver, is in a critical condition. 348 passengers were on board", according to the prefecture. The accident, occurred while the train was traveling at 270 km/h.

Nearly a hundred firefighters were deployed to the scene. Train traffic has been diverted in both directions, causing delays.

SNCF has launched an internal investigation.

A TGV had already derailed in 2015 in the Bas-Rhin, when a test TGV carrying out the last test on the section of the Paris-Strasbourg high-speed line had derailed in Eckwersheim, killing 11 people among the 53 people on board .
