Survey shows rise in obesity in France

Survey shows rise in obesity in France - Figures published today have revealed that nearly 20% of French adolescents are overweight or obese. The figures published by the Ministry of Health show a worrying rise with obesity or overweight affecting a quarter of French adolescents.

The study conducted with third grade students also points out that girls are more likely to be overweight: there are 19.7% of overweight girls compared to 16.9% of boys. In total, half of the third grader students spend an average of three and a half hours on screens every weekday. On weekends, the duration explodes: 6 hours per day on average.

The study also highlights the consequences of social inequalities: overweight and obesity are higher among adolescents from less advantaged social backgrounds.
