Three police officers have been killed and a fourth wounded in a house in the Puy-de-Dôme in central France. The mayor of the town said that "a military operation is still in progress". According to the elected official, the house was "completely destroyed by a fire", despite the intervention of firefighters to try to control the flames. He says investigators are now trying to determine whether the man's body is in the rubble or whether the man was able to escape.
The officers intervened after being alerted for a case of domestic violence. The gunman is said to been known to police for child custody issues. The officers were shot at as they tried to approach the house where the woman had taken refuge.
