The General Inspector of French Prisons has issued a report which is highly critical of the state of French prisons, including the one in Nice. Dominique Simonnot said that the facility, which was constructed in 1887, is in “an alarming condition, with damp walls, pervasive mould, and deteriorated sanitary facilities” with inmates facing dangerous electrical installations, increasing the risk of serious incidents, particularly fires.
