Flight 1611 Air France - The city of Nice will today commemorate the 50th anniversary of the plane crash that killed 95 people on September 11, 1968. Families of the victims are still looking for answers after 95 people including 89 passengers and 6 crew members were killed when the flight from Ajaccio to Nice crashed in the sea off the Riviera coast. Following an investigation carried out from November 1968 to April 1972 it was concluded that the cause was due to a fire on board. However in an article published by Paris March on September 21st 1968 it was reported that important aeronaval military exercises were being held in the area at the time of the crash suggesting that the aircraft could have been hit by a missile during training.
