Guilty - The Assizes Court of the Alpes-Maritimes has sentenced a 28 year old man to 20 years in prison. He was found guilty of stabbing a drug-dealer 13 times and leaving the body burning in a car at Mougins, during a pre-meditated gangland killing three years ago.
Stabbing - The victim of a stabbing attack at the Panorama building in Monaco, is recovering at Pasteur Hospital in Nice. The 40 year-old attacker, who was arrested less than ten minutes later, suffers from a mental disorder.
Fire - Residents of a high-rise apartment block on Boulevard Louis-Braille in Nice are returning to their homes, after a fire broke out on the ninth floor this morning. The spectacular blaze meant 30 homes had to be evacuated before the fire was brought under control.
Eurovision - Italy, with their singing gorilla, are odds on favourite to win Eurovision this weekend. Sweden, Belgium, Bulgaria and Portugal also in the Top 5 contenders list. The UK and France have also been well placed with bookies with both in the Top 10. Ireland however, failed to qualify. Eurovision is on the air live from Kiev in the Ukraine at 9pm tomorrow.
Germany's economy grew strongly in the first three months of this year, driven by investment and consumption. First-quarter GDP growth was 0.6%, two percentage points faster than the last quarter of 2016. Household and state spending were strong, while firms invested money in construction and equipment, according to the official German statistics authority.
The US and China have reached a ten point trade deal which including opening the Chinese market to US credit card companies, and lift a Chinese ban on US beef imports. The deal also allows Chinese banks to enter the US market. US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said the deal should reduce China's trade surplus with the US by the end of this year.
