Prince Albert II of Monaco has sent a message to President Donald Trump regarding tropical storm Harvey. The Prince expressed his deepest condolences and sympathy, and those of his family and the people of Monaco, to the families of the victims of tropical storm Harvey. The Prince said that he also wanted to salute the extraordinary work of the rescue teams and volunteers.
A 20 year old man was shot multiple times in the early hours of this morning in Marseille. He survived the attack and is now being treated in hospital. According to reports, the attack happened on the rue du Commerce in the north of the city. Twenty five bullet casings were apparently found by police at the scene. The shooter’s vehicle was later found burnt out in the 15th arrondissement.
More than a year after the Nice attack, 700 firefighters from the Alpes-Maritimes have been honoured in an official ceremony which took place yesterday in Nice. The firefighters were awarded medals for their acts of courage and dedication during the attack which took place on July 14th 2016 on the Promenade des Anglais killing 86 people.

The French government has unveiled its much anticipated plans to reform labour laws. Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said they were ambitious, balanced and fair but conceded that not everyone would support the changes. In the last few days several unions have called for protests, but reports say that two of the largest unions, Force Ouvrière and CFDT, although not happy with the reforms, would not take part in demonstrations which have been proposed for the 12th of September.
A man has reportedly been detained by police investigating the disappearance of a nine-year-old girl at a wedding party in the Isère Department on Sunday. Reports say that the detained man is 34-year-old and was a guest at the wedding.
Inflation in the Eurozone has risen to 1.5 per cent according to official figures released today. The unemployment rate in the Eurozone remains at 9.1 per cent, which is the lowest since early 2009.
Shares in supermarkets group Carrefour have fallen heavily today after it issued a profits warning.
India’s economy grew at 5.7 per cent in the April to June quarter, which is the slowest for 3 years. Manufacturing slowed down sharply with growth of 1.6 per cent compared to 10.7 per cent a year earlier.
FOOTBALL…Liverpool have signed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp described the England star as an exciting talent he didn't need to think twice about signing. Meanwhile, Manchester City have put forward an increased bid today for another Arsenal player, Alexis Sanchez. Tottenham have signed Serge Aurier from Paris St Germain under a 5 year deal.
CYCLING…Great Britain cyclist Lizzie Deignan’s schedule is in doubt after she underwent appendix surgery. It’s not yet clear if she’ll be fit for the Road World Championships which take place in Norway in about three weeks time.
ATHLETICS… French World 800 metres gold medallist Pierre-Ambroise Bosse has said that he will not be competing for the rest of the season after a violent assault. Bosse tweeted that he was attacked by three individuals on Saturday.
