More details have emerged about the fatal crash on the A6 motorway north of Macon in the Saône-et-Loire Department early today. The crash involved two cars, one of which was driven by an elderly person who died in the accident. It’s now been reported that the occupants of the other car were members of a family from La Trinite. A 4 year old girl and her father lost their lives in the accident. A 13 year old is reportedly in a critical condition. His twin brother and their mother were apparently only slightly hurt. The mayor of Nice, Christian Estrosi, has expressed his sadness at the accident.
Local motorway authorities have discovered a dead body at the side of the A8 motorway. The man’s body was reportedly found near the Roquebrune-Cap-Martin exit shortly after 9am this morning. Police have opened an investigation to determine the cause of death.

A 15 year old has been arrested in the Yvelines department suspected of killing his 19 year old sister. Reports say that the two were involved in an argument over a computer. The incident occurred yesterday afternoon.
The French Transport Minister, Elisabeth Borne has written to the management of the SNCF regarding several major disruptions to trains in the Paris region over the holiday period. There was severe disruption at Montparnasse in early December and at Saint-Lazare and Bercy stations in the last few days.
Chinese company Geely, the owner of Volvo cars, is buying a stake in truck-maker AB Volvo. The 8.2 per cent stake is reportedly worth about 3.3 billion dollars at current market prices.
In South Korea, prosecutors have asked for an increased jail term for the Vice-Chairman of Samsung Electronics, Jay Y. Lee. Mr. Lee is appealing a 5 year sentence handed down by a court a few months ago for bribing a former president of the country. Prosecutors are now asking for a 12 year sentence.
Football…Merseyside police have said that Liverpool player Jon Flanagan has been charged with common assault. Flanagan was charged following an incident in Liverpool city centre in the early hours of Friday. He’s been released on conditional bail and will appear before Liverpool City Magistrates Court on 2 January.
Rugby Union…The French national team coach Guy Noves has reportedly been sacked and replaced by Jacques Brunel. Noves had been in charge since the end of the 2015 World Cup.
Brunel will officially take charge next week. His contract runs until the 2019 World Cup.
