Kidnap - The main suspect, in the disappearance an 8 year-old girl, from a French wedding during the summer, has been arrested, in connection with another missing person. Police are questioning him about the disappearance of a 23 year-old soldier last April, in the same city of Chambéry.

Road Tax - There are reports today, of plans to introduce a new road tax in 2018. The Ministry of Transport say the tax is to cover improvements to the road network and will range from €75 to €125 per year. Solar - A new section of roadway has been installed in Fontvieille made from solar panels. The 50 metre long section on Avenue des Papalins provides enough power to run one household, but for now will be fed into the local network. It’s part of an ongoing experiment to show how our roadways can be used as a renewable energy source.

Avalanche - Skiers are being advised to take it easy on the slopes and not to go off-piste in the coming days. Recent heavy snow, at Isola 2000 in particular, has resulted in a very high risk of avalanche. Some controlled explosions have been taking place to reduce the risk, but skiers are warned to be extra careful.

BUSINESS

France is to fine Amazon €10 million for abusive sale practices in the country. The Finance Ministry says it is taking a case ,over contracts agreed with third-party vendors, which they says abuse Amazon’s dominant position in the French marketplace.

The European Commission is to open an in-depth investigation into Ikea's tax affairs. They’re focusing on the Dutch-based Inter Ikea, which operates the franchise part of the business, through the collection of royalties. The Commission say that in 2006, a Dutch tax ruling enabled Inter Ikea to pay a significant annual licence fee, to another Ikea unit in Luxembourg, where it remained untaxed.

SPORT

Football - Barcelona continue to make moves on France’s Anotine Griezmann in a bid to lure him to the club for next year’s season. Reports say the Barca club president recently met with Griezmann’s family to sweeten them to the €100 million deal.

Four police officers were injured during crowd trouble at last weekend’s match between St-Etienne and AS Monaco. The trouble flared with 200 fans, gathered outside the stadium in St-Etienne, after Monaco won the match 4-0.

Rugby - France's all-time leading scorer, Frederic Michalak, is to retire after this season from Lyon. The fly-half said the physical nature of the sport is getting more and more difficult, and after a glittering career which included 77 appearances for France, this would be a good time to stop.
