Bad weather is creating travel havoc across the region today, affecting flights, roads and train services.
All flights into, and out of, Nice Cote d’Azur airport have been cancelled until at least 10pm this evening, with some arriving flights being diverted to Marseilles. Passengers are advised to consult their airline regarding alternative flights or refunds.
On the roads, motorists are warned to be particularly careful on the A8 motorway between Monaco and the border, while on the Italian side, much of the A10 is closed.
In the mountains, all ski resorts are closed and several roads have closed due to the risk of avalanche.
Most train services between Nice Ville and Ventimeliga have been cancelled or delayed indefinitely due to a power problem, leading to extensive delays on the line between Nice Ville and St Raphael.
Along the coast, a high water warning is in place, and some coastal walkways are closed, including the Promenade Reine Astrid in Menton, the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, the Boulevard du Midi in Cannes, the Promenade de la Plage in Cagnes-sur-mer.
Earlier today, in Nice, Cannes and Menton, school children were asked not to return after the lunch-break while parents were asked to collect other children early.
HSBC is no longer under threat of prosecution in the US, over allegations of money laundering in Mexico. In 2012 the bank signed a deferred prosecution agreement to avoid facing criminal charges which HSBC says has now expired.
Bitcoin has begun trading on its first major exchange today, which saw it tip the $18,000 a coin mark at one stage, on the CBOE futures exchange in Chicago.
OGC Nice have been drawn to play Locomotiv Moscow in the last 32 of the Europa League. Celtic have been drawn against Zenit St Petersburg, while Arsenal will face Swedish club FK Ostersunds. Celtic, who finished third in their Champion’s League group, will host the Russian club in the first leg on 15 February, while Arsenal, who won their Europa League group, and were one of the seeded teams, will travel to Sweden first.
In Champions League, Paris St Germain have been drawn to play against holders Real Madrid next February. Of the five UK clubs in the last 16, Chelsea have been drawn against Barcelona, Tottenham will face Italian champions Juventus, Premier League leaders Manchester City will play Switzerland's Basel, Manchester United face La Liga side Sevilla and Liverpool take on Portugal's Porto.
Clermont Au.vergne have described the events around the postponement and rescheduling of their match against Saracens as "absurd". The European Champions Cup match - a repeat of the 2017 final - will now take place tonight in front of fans at Allianz Park at 6.30pm. In a statement Clermont described events of the last 24 hours as an "episode of amateurism".
