Emmanuel Macron comes first in the region in the second round of voting

French President - Emmanuel Macron, who finished third in the first round of the Presidential Elections on April 23rd, far behind Francois Fillon and Marine Le Pen, has come in first in the second round with more than 60% of the vote for the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur region.

French President - Emmanuel Macron has been elected the 8th President of the 5th Republique with just over 66% of votes according to figures released this morning. The 39 year old centrist candidate is the country’s youngest ever President. Supporters gathered in their thousands to celebrate outside the Louvre museum in central Paris and addressing the crowd, Macron declared: “Tonight you won, France won. Everyone told us it was impossible, but they don’t know France.” Macron defeated far-right candidate Marine Le Pen who claimed nearly 34% of the votes. According to the figures France saw one of the highest number of abstentions since 1969 with one in four French citizen’s not voting. In the Var an important region for the National Front, Macron beat the party with just over 50% of votes as well as in the Alpes Maritimes where he saw a clear victory in the second round compared to the first round with more than 60% of votes.
